2010: AMERICA’S CHALLENGE
Entering A New Decade
Year One of the Obama presidency has passed. One year later, his once most devoted supporters are complaining that he is disappointing them. Not enough done... not fast enough... not the right political direction... not the right foreign policy message... etc...etc...etc.
He walked into the Oval Office with, not one but, two wars being prosecuted, an economy in shambles on the verge of collapse, and a world terrorist organization desiring the death of every breathing American on Planet Earth.
The loyalty of the American public is very fickle indeed, and to some sense, quite pathetic. The US Electorate is deaf to the truth (some almost allergic to it), easily swayed by political marketing via their television sets, and, in the final analysis, mostly asleep at the wheel.
Mr. Obama’s administration took responsibility, about one year ago, of the most calamitous financial disaster the United States has experienced since the Great Depression of the early 20th century. Maybe America has an attention deficit disorder and just can’t quite remember how anything ever was in the past. Such shortsightedness should be alarming, but it’s just become a part of normal.
One of the Obama administration’s saving graces is that this enormous economic challenge was left to the present executive by the former executive; a parting "gift" of sorts. Although, to be fair, the former executive also inherited some of the problem from his predecessor, who was, by the way, a democrat.
It will be interesting to watch, in the days ahead, how America's role in national and world politics plays out. Will the Democrats in the Senate be able to get their legislation through without their solid 60 majority? Will the Obama administration have the time (and good fortune) they need to pull off their gamble? Will the American public discover patience and learn what that message on their computer screen really means? …you know the one..."PLEASE WAIT." (...to be continued)
